Route of hike:
– Plawangan II to the Summit of Mount Rinjani (difficult to strenuous, 4 hours, 3,726m)
– Summit of Mount Rinjani to Plawangan II (moderate to difficult, 3 hours, 2,600m)
– Plawangan II to Segara Anak Lake (Moderate to difficult, 4 hours, 2,000m)
Camp site: By the Segara Anak Lake
Strenuous effort was needed for the second day. Some of the members opted out of the climb due to strong wind, cold weather and steep route. Along the way to the summit, many hikers gave up due to the steep windy path. Day 2 was the day I gave all the strength and spirit my body could offer. The adventure was rewarding as I sat watching sea of clouds surrounding the sunset, the sight was absolutely mind-blowing.
Just when I thought Day 2 was over, it turned out that we were only halfway through! The next 4 hours was a steep climb down the cliff to the lake to the middle of the crater. But the natural hot spring bath awaiting us under the waterfalls was all worth the pain. With the dirt and dust accumulated over the last 2 days, it felt like my “cleanest” moment of the trip.
