Monte Carlo: The Playground for the Rich!

 The Heart of Monaco!

The Heart of Monaco!

Monaco, the second smallest state in the world after Vatican City, might be just a tiny dot on the world map. But with approximately 40,000 residents, it manages to attract thousands of visitors for its glitz and glamour – and I was one of them.

Good Morning!

Good Morning!

The beauty of Monaco is well publicized in its international events. Two of my favorites are “Monte Carlo ATP World Tour Masters 1000” (normally in April) and “Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix” (normally in May). Both events constantly showcase Monaco’s flamboyance, which intrigue my curiosity even more. The bird’s eye view from the Grand Prix telecast offers a great preview of the entire city-state.

Located along the French and Italian Riviera, the contours of Monaco are challenging with constant changes in elevation level. But with modern facilities such as lifts and escalators, travellers will still be able to explore the city-state comfortably. Walking is by default the easiest method to roam around Monaco.

Extravagant sports cars, fancy yachts, luxury hotels are common sights that adorn an upscale Monte Carlo. What this means for a backpacker like me is that most of Monte Carlo’s “hostels” are way beyond my budget. For my relaxing (or should I say “affordable”) sojourn, I spent a night in Ventimiglia (Italy), which is located 20 minutes train ride from Monte Carlo. For the price of approximately EUR 20, there are plenty hostels to choose from.

The Land of The Rich!

To enjoy a majestic view of Monaco, you must visit these 2 spots: Mini Mexico of Jardin Exotique de Monaco and The Prince’s Palace. Lastly, you might want to try your luck in the much-hyped Grand Casino to redeem back your expenses. Good luck!
