Utrecht, a city that is only 20-30 minutes train ride away from Amsterdam, may not be on most travellers’ To-Do list. For me, it holds a different perspective as to what Netherlands can offer. As I had arrived too early for the tulip season, I decided to visit Utrecht instead!
Despite the city’s swift development of infrastructure, Utrecht still retains its most iconic historical feature in the city center – The Dom Tower. Surrounding the Dom Tower is a charming mix of narrow canals, lively streets and a broad selection of boutiques that are hard to be missed.
The simplicity of Utrecht can be discovered on foot in a few hours. If you have been to the canal cruise of Amsterdam, Utrecht may seem a little less ambitious than the capital city of Holland. Nevertheless, I am still contented with the day trip!
