Kinderdijk, another great suburb escape from Amsterdam, is definitely worth a day trip to witness the picturesque 19 windmills. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the 19 windmills of Kinderdijk bear a close resemblance to the 6 windmills of Zaanse Schans. Both are icons of Netherlands that emphasize on the importance of water management.
Cycling and walking are great ways to explore Kinderdijk, especially during the beautiful springtime of Holland. My personal favorite is the 30-minutes canal cruise. It is a relaxing trip where you can just feel the breeze of the wind and bask in the serenity of Kinderdijk. Far from the hustle of city life, you can happily indulge in life’s simple pleasures in Kinderdijk – whether it be sipping on a cup of hot tea or sitting on a small bench and watching cheerful cyclists go by.
