Volendam, 20 km away from Amsterdam, holds a totally different atmosphere. The capital city of Amsterdam is developing so fast that it might lose the traditional touch of Holland. On the other hand, Volendam offers a preserved look of a former fishing market with variety of fresh seafood to choose from. Some might fancy a photo taking session in traditional Dutch costumes or indulge themselves with assortment of cheeses. Netherlands is never complete without a visit to their iconic windmills. From Amsterdam, the closest functional windmills are found in Zaanse Schans. Though it can get overcrowded during summer, it is well paid off with the picturesque landscape.
